Also, battery life! It’s not the best, and I would recommend carrying one or two extra batteries for a day’s shooting. If I could change anything, it would be the fixed screen as I love the tilt screen on my X-T3. Not that the X-T3 is by any means bad, but it’s very different and more ‘modern’ in look when comparing it to the X-Pro1. I certainly see this when comparing images from the X-Pro1 to the X-T3. It has to be said that this first-generation sensor is pretty special and delivers a somewhat ‘organic’ feel to the images, which many users argue hasn’t been bettered. Using it alongside my X-T3 today, which houses a fourth-generation X-Trans CMOS sensor, I’ve been very surprised at what this camera is capable of, and it can definitely hold its own, though as you would expect, the X-T3 has even higher resolving power, not to mention better noise response as higher ISO.

Thank you for your posting and blog. I do street and landscape, so I’m not trying for fast action. Slow and hunting AF? Just aim at a point of contrast and work from there. I like the lines and reflections in this image, but the colors did nothing for me, so I turned it black and white. No wifi? Don’t care – the cable loads pictures way faster and without the hassle of pairing. What I would love is to see a bunch more X-Trans 1 film recipes. To date, I’ve added Fuji’s 27mm (1st gen), a 56 1.2, and the 18mm 2.

I had one of the first X70’s in Canada and used it extensively, to the point where I “saw” that focal length everywhere I looked. It took a couple of years to get used to the 35mm. Mine came with a 35mm 1.4 lens, which at the time, I had no idea the mythology surrounding this combo. When I want to take my time, when I want interesting monochrome, or that magic film feel, out comes the X-Pro1. If I want a fast snap or an immediate in the moment response, I have an iPhone. I also bought a minty Japan-refurbished X-Pro1 as a back-up for when my luck-of-the-ebay-draw X-pro1 eventually dies. I have an X-T3 that I am prepping to sell.
